The Importance of Traditions
Celebrations are a very important part of growing up and maintaining a healthy perspective on life and people in general.
We at Casa dei Bambini Warsaw Montessori School believe that rituals and tradition support defining community of students and teachers. They also enable the children to become citizens of the world as they help build civilization. During the school year we invite families to come and share their experiences, customs and celebrations. It is beautiful and valuable enrichment to our school life. Maria Montessori believed that rituals and traditions are not only seen, but they become part of the child’s soul.
All the celebrations are included in the school calendar and these are:
• Teacher’s Day |
• All Saint’s Day |
• Pumpkin Day |
• Independence Day |
• Thanksgiving |
• St. Andrew’s Day |
• Santa’s visit |
• Christmas season |
• Epiphany |
• Grandparent’s Day |
• Carnival Ball |
• Chinese New Year |
• St. Valentine’s Day |
• Fat Thursday |
• Women’s Day |
• St. Patrick’s Day |
• Marzanna Day |
• Spring Picnic |
• Easter |
• Labour Day |
• Constitution Day |
• St. Sofia’s Day |
• Parent’s Day |
• Children’s Day |
Apart from the above mentioned the children are invited to celebrate their birthday. Also, it may happen that the school will organize additional celebrations with respect to the nationality of students and teachers.
All celebrations are treated with great importance and with deep respect.
These special occasions are filled with genuine information, shared during circle time, special projects, beautiful classroom decorations as well as visits from guests.
The children truly become involved in all the celebrations and contribute by sharing their experiences, bringing books, inviting guests or their parents. It may happen that the children are offered a special treat, e.g. a doughnut for Fat Thursday or a chocolate coin for Saint Patrick’s Day.
This goes together with our Practical Life curriculum of cooking projects, e.g. preparing gingerbread cookies for our Christmas charity. It is of special importance to provide the children with various sensorial experiences as they build knowledge and influence who we are. Through taste the child is able to learn and connect the sensorial impressions with people, places, or time. All the information gathered is later on collected and stored in the long term memory. The sensory experiences of different flavours and textures allow us to connect a taste of a home-made apple pie with a beloved grandma, a roasted turkey with Thanksgiving or gingerbread when decorating a Christmas tree. And by building the bridge between the generations, help enrich civilization.
However, we do understand that at times your child cannot participate in some of the culinary projects. In cases of allergies or if it is a parents wish for their child not to partake in the treat, we kindly ask that you bring a snack suitable to your liking making the experience inclusive.
