Student Mobility

Student mobilities are one of the key components of the “Erdkinder Montessori & Farm School” project, implemented under the Erasmus+ KA220 programme. Their purpose is to provide young people aged 12–18 with the opportunity to experience Montessori Erdkinder education in an international, real-life learning and working environment. Over the two-year duration of the project, students from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Latvia, and Slovakia will take part in five-day visits to partner schools, during which they will learn through meaningful work, collaborate with peers from different countries, and explore various approaches to practical education within Montessori settings. The main location for the mobilities will be the Montessori Farm School in Białka, where students will immerse themselves in the daily rhythm of the Erdkinder community: morning responsibilities, gardening, carpentry or kitchen work, caring for animals, as well as personal reflection and end-of-day discussions. This experience allows adolescents to take part in one of the most distinctive aspects of Montessori education — learning grounded in real responsibility, independence, and meaningful contribution to the community. The educational programmes developed within the project, including beekeeping, carpentry, gardening, and kitchen work, will form the basis of the practical activities carried out during the mobilities. Mobilities will also take place at partner schools abroad, giving students the chance to see how different countries implement elements of Montessori practical work in their local contexts. These visits are not only educational but also cultural, allowing students to observe everyday school life, traditions, and different ways in which communities support adolescent development. Through mobilities, young people develop key competences that Maria Montessori identified as essential during adolescence: independence, a sense of agency, teamwork, responsibility for the community, social awareness, and ecological sensitivity. They also learn how to function in an international environment, strengthening their European identity and openness to diversity. Each mobility will conclude with a student presentation summarising the experience. These presentations, prepared in English, will be published on the project website as documentation and inspiration for other Montessori schools across Europe. Student mobilities embody the central idea of the project — an education that connects theory with practice, school with real life, and young people with the world around them. Through these experiences, the “Erdkinder Montessori & Farm School” project becomes a space for genuine learning through action, collaboration, and responsibility.
